Some Great Boys

Last weekend we had the great fun of having the Kanes with us.  This family is from Indiana, and they serve with us at Camp of the Woods.  Will hung around with us for the weekend and so we had five boys in the house.  And they are all such a pleasure to be around.

Madeline was here on Friday evening and they all got to meet her.  She put on quite and show and took up immediately with Evan, the youngest (12).  It was very sweet.

The middle two, Ethan (14) and Alex (16), were talkative and cooperative.  These boys know how to go with the flow, even when arriving at the wedding they were here to attend an hour early.  They complain very little and seem very tolerant of listening to adult conversation.  Even when Ethan's air mattress went flat he didn't complain (we fixed it the second night).  Alex rode to and from Chattanooga with Phil and they had a great conversation about centaurs (Wouldn't you have liked to been a fly on the wall for that?).

Schyler is the oldest (18), finishing up high school and preparing for college.  He just got his first car. He's making plans to go into surveying for his career.  Schyler is a tremendous help at camp and an excellent counselor.  I was so impressed with him when he was here over the weekend.  When I was trying to assign them places to sleep, there was one bed and bedroom that someone could have for themselves.  I offered it first to him.  He said, "No, let the others take what they want, and I'll take whatever's left."  What big brother does that?!  Most big brothers are most than eager to assert their "top dog" status.  I just thought it was quite a wonderful thing.

On Saturday night, all the adults were tired.  We all headed for bed at 9:00 (that's way early for us).  As we went off to bed we heard Will say to the boys, "You're not going to bed!  You're not old people!  We're going to find a movie to watch and stay up late."  I'm sure they found something Star Wars related and were all happy to get to share that time.  I'm glad Will did that.

I wish you all could know such outstanding boys.  It was a pleasure to spend time with all of them. (Adam and Billie are alright too.)
